Rowing Update - July

13 Jul 2016 by Christian Oneto

Dear Rowing Community,

Strongman training will start in Week 2 and is open for any boys in grades 8-11, it is on Monday and Tuesday mornings on Flat 7, boys are asked to be there by 6 am. This is a change from previous publicised sessions due to coach and coordination availability, I apologise for any inconvenience.

This is a great opportunity for boys to get a head start on the season as the sessions focus on core stability, flexibility, functional strength and cardio vascular fitness. This type of training will undoubtedly complement any boy who is playing Rugby or Basketball at the moment (Boys who are involved in A/B rugby training please consult with Harry to discuss whether you should attend).

Boys in Years’ 10 or 11 who are also focusing on making the Open 1st VIII should by now have seen Harry Westbrook to ensure they have a weights program to supplement the strongman training (and to test how your strength training has progressed through term 2).

On-water training is available starting week 3 Wednesday and Thursday mornings at the shed at West End this is for boys in years 9, 10 and 11 ONLY. A bus will leave school at 5am and return for school, boys will need to again cater their own breakfast for these sessions (If a parent would like to assist with coordinating some breakfast during term 3 please let me know).

Parent Support Group Meeting
A reminder that the parent support group meeting was rescheduled to take place on Monday the 26th of July. It is a great opportunity for new parents to come along and meet some ‘experienced’ rowing parents and gain insight into the rowing community. It will be held at 6:30pm at Rowing shed at West End (150 Jane st West End).
