A tribute to team mates Oar’s at the ready, heart racing, steady, steady. Starters horn bounces of the of the lake, we are underway …….. 1/2, 1/2 , 3/4, full,  the boat rises from the lake like magic and we are underway, the strokes flow like in slow motion must reach the bridge first, must reach the bridge first.  As the shadow moves quickly over the bow it is stroke after stroke and we feel the momentum moving in our favour, stay focus.. as the cheers of the spectators become louder, keep the rate going, stay focused, keep in time. Time is my competitor, as is the other boats in the race, we are all battling to improve our personal best, a challenge that we have all strived for many months ago when first returned to the shed. I had said to myself last year that I would not be returning to the brotherhood of the boat as the early morning would be too much and I would lose my Saturdays…….. Head in the game………… as I can see the 1500m mark approaching, with lactic acid and adrenal flowing through my veins my body wants to stop. The momentum of my teammate in front of me inspires me to continue even thought I want to stop. The boat slides thru the water dawning closer to the finish, with the buzzers sound, my time is done. This is the end of my rowing career at Nudgee, my last race against the clock and boats powered by the spirt of Nudgee men. Three cheers for us and of course three cheers for the other teams.
